Global Learning Opportunities Building Engagement (GLOBE) for Sustainable Development Goals | #GLOBE4SDGs | Dr. Jose G. Lepervanche

When we visited Japan during 2015 World Scout Jamboree we were impacted by their culture, history, technology, companies, and the ability to have more than 34,000 scouts from than 150 countries engage with nature, water, science, and worldwide Scouting. We visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and learned about their Hiroshima Peace Program. We came back committed to integrate all learning experiences to improve business management and youth leadership instruction. We combined all learning content with other resources including TED, TEDx, and TED Ed lessons and started working for a better world. Later we added the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

We used TEDxFSCJ lessons to create TED Ed Lessons and delivered TECH Knowledge Workshops to use technology to combine TED Ed Lessons into Learning Management systems for online courses.

We used our TECH Knowledge ideas to impuse our “be-outside-of-the-box” initiatives that include the top of Bloom’s taxonomy, outdoors learning, outdoors classrooms, and outdoors university concepts.

We created TEDxFSCJ Learning Adventures to bring TED, TEDx, and TED Ed Lessons to discussions, assignments, and team projects and to schedule end of term roundtables to discuss the courses topics and their relationship with specific SDGs.

We included our Global Learning Opportunities Building Engagement (GLOBE) educational model to connect blogs, social media, multigenerational students, Scouts, TED, TEDx, and TED Ed lessons with the SDGs. We integrated all mentioned tools to Learning Management systems and online courses to enhance outdoors classrooms and learning to educate the digital leaders of tomorrow.

We used our Personal Leadership System and personal SWOT analysis to connect our beliefs, values, and priorities with the SDGs.

Next, we used all these resources and models to connect our personal vision and goals with service projects in our communities to start selecting specific SDGs.

Project/event description:
Management of Information Systems students host a live and online discussion about uses of Internet Technologies in corporate training and education. How to integrate Global Learning Opportunities Building Engagement (GLOBE)© educational model in online, on-ground, and outdoors learning. Model is used for multigenerational and multinational students using Device Oriented Learning. Next digital leaders are the instant knowledge generation who are very familiar with TECHKnowledge.

Model includes Learning Management Systems, Sustainable Development Goals, Blogs, TED Ed Lessons, and Social Media Learning. The objective is to find global learning opportunities to make bridges between knowledge, technology and people building engagement using out-of-the-classroom ideas and outdoors classrooms.

Project/event directions for participation:
Educators and students can add comments to share how you are incorporating outdoors activities and current events to expand content of corporate training and higher education courses?. Please share video links and links to resources.

Dr. Jose G. Lepervanche Valencia (@DrLepervanche) currently works as Professor of Management at Florida State College at Jacksonville. He also teaches Information Systems and eBusiness courses in online graduate programs. He was an Internet pioneer when he introduced the first commercial online service in Venezuela in the early 90s. He has been online publisher, web developer, Internet strategist and consultant, emerging technologies early adopter, and online professor since 1999. He is TEDxFSCJ Founder and Organizer. He uses TED, TED-Ed, and TEDx Talks to enhance management instruction beyond the classroom. He has published more than 50 TED Ed Lessons for higher education. TEDxFSCJ Learning Adventures are small events created to do roundtables about topics related to Social Responsibility, Leadership, and Sustainable Development Goals using TED resources.

He is a retired Lieutenant Commander from the Venezuelan Navy and he has a Nuclear Engineer degree and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His undergraduate degree from the Venezuelan Naval Academy (First of the Class) is Lic. in Naval Sciences. He also was Honor Graduate of the International Electronic Warfare Course at the US Navy Atlantic Fleet Combat Training Center in Virginia. He earned his PhD in Organization & Management with specialization in Information Technology Management from Capella University

He is lifelong Scout leader in Venezuela and Boy Scouts of America (BSA). He was one of the 43 2009 BSA National Distinguished Scoutmasters. He was Scoutmaster / Course Director of North Florida Council’s National Youth Leadership Training. He developed a Personal Leadership Model to help youth leaders find their way to college and future careers. He is currently Vice President of Scouting Programs for BSA North Florida Council and Sea Scouts leader. He has been Unit Leader to World Jamboree in Japan, International Scottish Jamborette and BSA National Scout Jamboree. He is a Sudden Cardiac Arrest survivor after being saved with CPR/ AED during a Boy Scouts Summer Camp.

Global Outdoors Learning Blogs and TED Talks have been used with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be added to topics in Management courses. Blogs posts and TED Ed Lessons have been created and integrated to Learning Management Systems (LMS) using the Global Learning Opportunities Building Engagement (GLOBE) model. GLOBE is an educational model created to facilitate global collaboration and creative learning methods inside and outside the classroom to enhance Management programs.

The objective is to:
1. Find Global Learning Opportunities that are useful to our courses or programs.
2. Building bridges by connecting speakers, presenters, adventurers, travelers, facilitators or influencers with Management courses (Global Management, Outdoors Leadership, Youth Leadership, City Management, Strategic Management, Technology Management).
3. Build Engagement by creating active and continuous collaboration using blogs posts and adding TED Ed lessons with TED talks related to specific Management topics and SDGs.

Presentation shows how learning blogs posts are organized in global categories by activities, topics, SDGs, and countries. It shows how to create TED Ed Lessons using relevant TED Talks and, it shows hot to integrate or embed these resources into LMS of Management Courses in order to enhance classrooms, online discussions, and outdoors learning experiences.
